EXCURSION

Join us on a guided bus tour around Göteborg city center and to the landslide area in Tuve.

The landslide occurred in 1977 and is one of the worst natural disasters ever to occurred in Sweden with nine casualties. Even today when looking at the area with “geotechnical glasses” the markings of this huge landslide can be seen.

The bus tour will start at the conference venue Lindholmen Science center. The tour brings us first to the Karla Tower that is currently being built. The tower is the highest building in the Nordic countries. The journey then continues over the Arpeggio bridge, the new landmark which was recently finished during Göteborg´s 400-year anniversary. After crossing the bridge, the bus will take us to through several spots of the biggest ongoing infrastructure project in the city – The West link project, a railway tunnel passing through the entire central parts of the city. Thereafter the construction of an artificial peninsula will follow.

The trip will include several interesting objects before finally stopping at the landslide area where the story of the disaster will be told.

On the bus there will be local guides as well av geotechnical professionals providing us with historical facts and geotechnical curiosa.
